Just like the legendary English
green lawn which must be mowed and watered everyday for centuries. Looking from outside Szombathely did provide no miracles
either for the wrestling world – just perfect organization of prestigious and important competitions. From inside we
see very well the ingredients of success, the efforts, the ideas, and permanent endeavour of improvement. This is the secret
why the wrestling family is always pleased to see when Szombathely appears as organizer in the FILA calendar.
The big project ahead of
us in Vas County and the capital of Hungarian wrestling sport which foresee two major events, the GR World Cup and the Golden
Grand Prix will see familiar names and faces from the wrestling top including well-known athletes from Korea, Iran, Georgia,
Russia and the United States where world-class conditions, friendly atmosphere
shall be waiting for them.
As host I am under a bearable
double pressure because I do not have any reason to be concerned either about the level of organization or the Hungarian squad.
Both are professionals who know and do their job very well.
The big challenge arrives
from the mat. The first five GR teams from the 2007 Baku World Championships have the right to send their delegations to the
World Cup. The Hungarian wrestlers shall face several world-class wrestlers during the days in Szombathely where all matches
will be tough and everybody have to be concentrated just like at the the Olympic Games in August. Our fighting spirit will
be very high and „to lose from the better
is not a shame” definitely
will not be written on our flags. Though with no medals in Baku our wrestlers finished first with four on the list of quota-winning
countries tied with two of our guests, USA and Russia.
Our Olympic hopes shall be
fighting ruling world champions in Arena Savaria which is going to be an enormous task but if they receive the necessary support
from the full crowd they might accomplish successfully this important mission on their way leading to Beijing.
